Background
For decades, Realtors have conspired to split what was typically a 6% commission obtained by the Listing Broker and shared with a buyer brokerage firm. Buyer agent/Realtors suggested their services were “free” to their buyer clients and paid by the seller at closing. The US DOJ and numerous courts across the country ruled antitrust violations and National Association of Realtor (NAR) practices restricted competition and inflated commissions forcing a 2024 settlement. As part of the settlement, NAR agreed to implement changes to its policies, promoting more transparency in commission structures and enhancing consumer choices. See “FAQ” tab for more details.
